Note To Self: Don't Steal Money From Youth Basketball League To Play Roulette
Robert Wolfe, the former director of the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, stole money from a youth basketball league to support a gambling addiction, his defense attorney said yesterday.
“Mr. Wolfe developed a gambling addiction, and it snowballed,” attorney David Arnold said, adding that Wolfe has been attending counseling sessions five days a week for his gambling problem.
“I’m sorry for what I did,” Wolfe said yesterday before he was sentenced to 23 months probation, fined $2,800 and ordered to pay restitution of $16,294.
Wolfe said he had put his family “through hell.”
President Judge Robert J. Eby also ordered Wolfe to continue to receive counseling and perform 100 hours of community service.
Wolfe, 50, of 405 S. Sixth St., Lebanon, pleaded guilty Aug. 25 to five counts of theft and two counts of forgery. He was charged with stealing the money between May 2003 and September 2004.
