Wayne F Newton Update
Seems like Mr. WFN is out on the road... here's a bit of a review/preview from the Louisville Kentucky Courier-Journal:
Only a handful of artists can legitimately claim to own a piece of Las Vegas' glittering, outrageously over-the-top show-biz history, and Wayne Newton is one of them.
The reigning Mr. Las Vegas, Newton currently holds court at the Stardust Hotel & Casino, doing six shows a week for 40 weeks each year, and still claims one of the hottest tickets in town. His decades-long encampment in Vegas places him among the city's Magic Triumvirate of musical legends, alongside Frank Sinatra's Rat Pack and Elvis Presley.
When Newton performs tomorrow night at the Louisville Palace, as part of the Louisville Orchestra's Chase Pops Series, we won't get the full Newton -- the bells-and-whistles show that has earned him so many Entertainer of the Year awards in Vegas that there has been talk of retiring the award.
But we will get the man himself, the essence of entertainment, about whom rock writer Jim Greer once said, "His show is the standard by which I will henceforth judge each future concert of any genre. I'm not talking about camp, or kitsch ... I'm talking about full-blooded American entertainment."
