Wynn Las Vegas: Lake Of Dreams

I don't understand what I'm seeing, but I can't stop looking. Water, smoke, fire, colored lights, ghostly shapes, disappearing bodies. A giant head, spouting unintelligible babble, rising from a haunted lake. It's surreal theater; Dalí on a particularly incomprehensible bender.

And I can't wait for it to start again.

It's the Lake of Dreams, an odd and strangely compelling phantasmagoria that is just one of the many attractions leaving visitors slack-jawed at Wynn Las Vegas, the $2.7 billion ship of dreams launched in April by casino impresario Steve Wynn. The Lake of Dreams is home to free nightly shows that its creators call "a series of dream sequences." Think of this loony lake as the metaphysical opposite of the balletic precision of the Dancing Waters at Bellagio, Wynn's last showstopper.

Dreams, in many guises, loom large over the shiny, plush Wynn Las Vegas. There's the dream-inducing composition of the elegant guest rooms that raise the bar in Vegas hostelry. There's dream-inspired shopping (Chanel, Cartier, Dior, Manolo Blahnik, Louis Vuitton, Graff jewels and a Ferrari and Maserati dealership). Even the resort casino's big-ticket floor show, Le Reve, is subtitled "a small collection of imperfect dreams."
