Jersey Paper Reviews Wynn Las Vegas

If Steve Wynn builds it, they will come.

The casino mogul who hit the jackpot on the Las Vegas Strip with Treasure Island, The Mirage and Bellagio is back with the costliest hotel ever erected in this desert fantasyland. Faster than you can lose $20 in a slot machine, his $2.7 billion Wynn Las Vegas has become a tourist must-see.

Checking into the Wynn means wading through a stream of sightseers checking out the mosaic-floored atrium and snapping loved ones by banks of fresh flowers or under big upside-down parasols suspended from the ceiling.

But those expecting Vegas-brash displays will be disappointed.

There's no spewing volcano (Mirage), no pyrotechnic pirate-ship battle featuring sexy vixens (Treasure Island), no 8-acre lake with fountains that dance in time to music (Bellagio). Wynn's nightly music-and-light show that plays out on a wide artificial waterfall is on a smaller scale and unlike the other extravaganzas can't be viewed from the sidewalk.
