For a little while, Mr. Las Vegas made thousands of people forget they were sitting in the grass and on bleachers at Memorial Stadium and made them feel they were in a lounge on The Strip.

Wayne Newton gave fans Friday night in Port Huron what they wanted: the charm, the humor and, of course, a musical "thank you."

"I just want to hear him sing Danke Schoen," Gloria Cortinez, 41, of Port Huron said moments before Newton launched into his trademark song. "That's my favorite song since I was a little girl."

The weather helped Acheson Ventures' annual Southside Summer Festival concert feel like a slightly more humid version of Las Vegas. The temperature was in the 90s when Newton arrived by limo at 6:30 p.m. He and his 19-member band started the concert at 8 p.m. dressed in black tuxedos and dresses. By the time he left the stage about 9:40 p.m., Newton had undone his bow tie and removed his jacket.
