Wynn Las Vegas Sportsbook Honcho Quits

When it comes to prestige and compensation, there are few better bookmaking jobs than heading up the sportsbook at Wynn Las Vegas.

That’s why it caught a lot of Vegas industry people and gamblers by surprise when Vinny Magliulo recently tendered his resignation as race and sports book director, barely two months after Wynn Las Vegas opened.

“It’s a question of me being honest with the demands of work and family,” Magliulo said.

Often working seven days a week – and this is before football – Magliulo realized the workload and demands of the job were going to get even worse. He had been working behind the scenes on Wynn Las Vegas for four years after leaving Caesars Palace in 2000, where he was sports book director for seven years.

“It’s been very exciting,” Magliulo said. “I loved it. But the time required to be here the most is also the time I’m needed at home the most. It’s simply a matter of not wanting to compromise or cheat one or the other.”

Both of Magliulo’s parents are living, and his dad has health issues.

“I didn’t want the position’s responsibility to be at all compromised,” Magliulo said about why he resigned.

It’s rare nowadays to find someone willing to walk away from a huge dream job to ensure he spends enough quality time with his family.
