Burger Joints: Planet Hollywood/Aladdin Deal Approved
CARSON CITY, Nev. ñ New owners of the bankrupt Aladdin and soon-to-be Planet Hollywood hotel-casino on the Las Vegas Strip were licensed Thursday by Nevada casino regulators ñ after a key investor promised to improve his business practices.
Planet Hollywood CEO Robert Earl said he had made some "grave missteps" earlier in his business career but added, "I have learned my lesson" and wouldn't disappoint the state Gaming Commission which licensed him and his partners in the $637 million deal.
During a review of the venture earlier this month by the commission's investigative arm, the state Gaming Control Board, Earl had been asked about two corporate bankruptcies, and dealings with a Planet Hollywood franchisee in Zurich who was murdered in a possible underworld hit.
