Who Cares Dept: Mamma Mia's 1000th Performance
Mamma Mia! will reach its milestone 1,000th performance in Las Vegas on June, 29th; the show will then become the longest-running full-scale musical ever to hit the Strip.
Mamma Mia! premiered at Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on February 13, 2003. In addition to remaining the most successful full-scale Broadway musical ever to play the Las Vegas Strip, Mamma Mia! has broken all box office records at the Mandalay Bay Theatre and was named the Number #1 Show in Las Vegas by Mike Weatherford of the Las Vegas Review Journal in 2004.
Mamma Mia!, which opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre on October 18th, 2001, has played over 820 performances in New York and continues to play to full houses. The show is also currently being performed in 12 countries around the world in 7 languages, as well as in 3 companies around North America. Mamma Mia! takes place on a tiny Greek Island, as a mother and daughter try to settle the girl's paternity before her wedding. The show is set to the songs of ABBA's Bjorn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, with hits including "Dancing Queen," "Money, Money, Money" and "The Winner Takes It All."
