Aria Joins Bellagio In Banning Apple Watch From Blackjack Tables

Aria Las Vegas is the second major Las Vegas resort to ban players from wearing an Apple Watch at their tables.

Upon exchanging cash for chips at a blackjack one of Aria's blackjack tables, the dealer slid the chips over to VT staffer JohnH and said:

I have to ask you to remove your Apple Watch."
Are you serious?"
Yes, sir. You have to remove it and put it in your pocket."

Bellagio banned players from wearing Apple Watch at their tables in June. Both Aria and Bellagio are owned by the same parent company MGM Resorts International, who ignored our previous inquiry about their Apple Watch policy.

Comments & Discussion:

I am still trying to figure out why the Apple Watch is banned. Can it read cards?

The Apple Watch is a display for the bluetooth enabled commputer in your pocket. It's banned for many of the same reasons you can't have your cell phone out.

I speculated months ago that a person could (fairly easily) design an app that will take inputs from a bluetooth device (or two, maybe hidden in a person's shoes?) and have a covert display built into the virtual watch face. Suddenly, counting cards is way too easy. Tap left foot for +1, right foot for -1. Watch hand points to the count, hands turn red if it's negative.

I can't believe it took them this long to ban it.
