UPDATE: Mix Bar Will Become Skyfall Lounge

The Mandalay Corporation has registered a trademark on July 2, 2015 for the term Skyfall Lounge. The description of the trademark is "Bar services; cocktail lounge services."

The obvious choice here is the renovation of Mix Lounge at the top of Delano hotel tower. Knowing MGM Resorts International's massive case of Cosmopolitan targeted penis envy, why wouldn't MGM snack on some of Cosmo's 007-inspired iconography? Thus, Skyfall Lounge.

UPDATE: We've received confirmation from dependable sources that Skyfall Lounge will be the new name of Mix's bar & photo op spot when it re-opens attached to Alain Ducasse's Rivea Las Vegas

Way up the food chain of possibilities, is that this registration may offer evidence that there is an Adele residency coming to Mandalay Bay as British tabloids have reported.

Since 1981, all of the James Bond films have been distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer/Columbia Pictures and their parent company SONY Pictures. MGM Grand Hotels (eventually MGM Mirage and now MGM Resorts International) evolved from the declining fortunes of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer under CEO Kirk Kerkorian. Would this long ago relationship allow Mandalay Bay to open an officially licensed James Bond themed lounge?Doubtful, but for anything can be had for the right price. Toss Adele into the mix and the odds increase.

I eagerly await "no comment" from MGM Public Relations (Hi Gordon!).

Big thanks to Misnomer for spitballin'.

Skyfall Lounge: Drink on your sins.

Does Judi Dench fall over the balcony at closing?

The capacity of the Mandalay Bay Theatre (where MJ One is) and House of Blues are 1800 seats each. The Chelsea at Cosmopolitan (where Adele last performed in Las Vegas) is 3200. The Planet Hollywood theater (where Britney plays) is 4,600.

Here's some math:

Britney Spears at PH:
$15m/year @ 50 shows = $300k/show / 4600 seats = $65 cost basis per ticket

Adele at Mandalay Bay MJOne Theatre:
$20m/year @ 50 shows = $400k/show / 1800 seats = $222 cost basis per ticket

Adele at Monte Carlo's New Theatre:
$20m/y @ 50 shows = $400k/show / 5000 seats = $80 cost basis per ticket

As a Bond, Vegas, cocktail junkie, I can't wait for this to open!

Assuming they don't blow it completely that should be a license to print money.

Would Adele maybe do a half-house setup in the events center? It's not all that busy.

no, but she'll settle any drunken fistfights that break out...:

I love James Bond as much as the next person on this site, but I've never understood the name "Skyfall," especially when it's attached to a penthouse bar. Sounds too much like a leaping suicide.

Anyway, a Bond-ish concept could be cool. Not sure how it jibes with Mandalay's semi-tropical feel, but neither does House of Blues or Michael Jackson, and they seem to be doing OK.
