Betty Whitehead Willis, Designer of Iconic Las Vegas Sign, Dies
The Neon Museum has announced via their Facebook joint that Betty Whitehead Willis, designer of the iconic 'Welcome to Las Vegas Nevada" sign has passed away at the age 92.
Betty also designed the truly gorgeous Moulin Rouge script, one of my absolute favorite pieces of lettering and logo design.

Dim the lights for Betty!
Big thanks to Misnomer for the tip!

Comments & Discussion:
RIP Betty. That Welcome to LV sign is one of the last pieces of old neon left on the strip. Other than The Flamingo do any other casinos have major neon?
Circus Circus?
I'd swear that the sign used to say "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas, the Entertainment Capital of the World" when I first started visiting Vegas, way-waaaay back in the '80's.
@Hobgoblin: The Riv, for another couple weeks, and many Fremont Street properties have lots of neon.
RIP Betty. I was pleasantly surprised to learn this sign was designed by a woman, especially in 1950s Vegas.
