The New Gold Tower Rooms At Golden Nugget

The Golden Nugget announced today that they have completed a full renovation of the Gold Tower Rooms.

The upgrades include new mattresses, new furniture, new TV sets, new bathrooms, new AC units, new towels.... they spent $15 million smackers.

King size bed with lounger couch, arm chair AND a desk! They fit a lot of stuff in these rooms! The wallpaper pattern evokes fishnet stockings (nonononon don't take it off, don't take it off) but I do feel that the contrast trends a bit towards the dark side.

The rooms at the Golden Nugget are still the yardstick by which the rest of downtown should be measured, albeit a little bit shorter now.

Comments & Discussion:

The design aesthetic that originated in the Gold Tower's Gold Club rooms (They were a test design of sorts for the Rush Tower rooms.) now is within the entire tower. As much as I enjoyed my room in the Rush Tower several years ago, I didn't mind the Gold Tower at all when I last stayed there (June 2011) because of it's location within the property.

A quick look at the rooms at some of their sister properties shows that they're using nearly the same decor in the Gold Tower rooms as they are at the Golden Nugget Biloxi (Formerly the Isle/Isle of Capri.) . The rooms are their newest property, Golden Nugget Lake Charles look pretty sharp as well and I wonder if they may use that as the basis for a renovation of the Carson Tower. It also begs the question if the Golden Nugget in Laughlin will ever be renovated.

I stayed with my gf in a Gold Club room in Summer-ish 2009 and it was decent when grading on a Downtown. However the room had the feeling of being stuffed with Arrested Development-esque model house furnishings. The illusion is better enjoyed by looking and not touching.

Also the shower was very poorly designed. The glass door sealed the shower completely from floor to ceiling, creating a swampy, un-breatheable situation by minute 4. Not sure if they fixed that though.

Also there were major dust bunnies in the cabinet where the DVD player was. It was one of those $14 DVD players Crazy Gideon used to draw people into his store.

That should be 'grading on a Downtown curve'. Sorry.
