Big big big news from inside the chocolate curve. Sources are telling us that Wynn Resorts is on the verge of commencing a massive renovation project throughout the combined Wynn and Encore properties that will extend to the end of next year.

Included in the plans are a complete and total renovation of the entire collection of suite, salon and possibly Duplex Apartment products in the Encore tower.

The top-to-bottom room renovation is budgeted to commence in 2015, with blocks of floors taken out of service as demolition, construction and finish crews move floor by floor installing the upgraded designs.

Encore Tower Suites will get thorough refresh, as well as an expansion. Expansion? Yes! The hallway barrier which separates the resort and tower sides will be moved, adding 2-4 new ETS rooms per floor.

Steve Wynn is currently deciding between a number of room mockups that have been built by Wynn Design & Development. It is unknown if Roger Thomas' go to subcontractor Todd-Avery Lenahan, designer of Encore's current standard suites, will be reprising his role.

One item that won't be returning to Encore is the Desert Bambu lemongrass citrus bath products. They have been replaced by house branded developed by by Molton Brown.

Steve, it too early to call dibs on one of those wood sconces before they get 86'd?

Comments & Discussion:

Kudos to Wynn for reno'ing the Encore rooms 6 years after opening. I think we all know the experience of staying in a high-end hotel where the rooms haven't been refreshed meaningfully in 10-15 years. Any room will just get destroyed in that time. Wynn is keeping his room product competitive, and he deserves credit.

Good. Encore rooms were getting a little worn, and that was 2 years ago.
Now if beachclubs suddenly weren't en-vogue anymore and they would shut down EBC, I would be a very happy man.

Does that mean the Encore Beach Club isnt permament and it will go back to being a porte cochere?

Can we say maybe we will have a taste of what Wynn Cotai will look like? Wynn seems to like to use aspects of new design of a new (under construction) property when renovating an "old" one.

I was shocked when Chuck (Welcome Back, BTW!!) said it was a total, combined-resort redo. But then, Wynn's schedule has always been 5 yrs and that means the original tower would in fact come due again in 2015. (Seems like it was just redone. Wow.)

Encore got passed over for some reason, perhaps the recession and decreased demand meaning less wear & tear. Although, Encore's rates have been higher than Wynn for a while now suggesting higher demand over there (or a perception of something "better," though you'd have to have the occupancy numbers to back it up.) Wynn did say in the conference call that he's had the occupancy numbers to justify raising rates 18% across the board. Guess those offers will stop appearing in my inbox pretty soon….

As for EBC reverting to a porte cochere -- huh? How? Someone here, a while ago, suggested it could become a luxury pool with a nice bar attached, once this silly club obsession passes. (Not holding my breath, though, given the $$$$$.)

Any word on what the regular day-to-day occupancy rate is for Encore? I know the casino tends to under-perform, at least compared to Wynn Las Vegas'. I'd imagine with the higher rate means the club crowd opts to stay elsewhere and hoof it over, or maybe that's they prefer some place with a view other than Fountainebleau or the ass-end of the Wynn tower.
