Mike Massé at Mizuya Lounge
Every now and then we'll write about a big act coming to town and filling the seats at MGM's Grand Garden Arena, The Joint at Hard Rock, or some major locale at Cosmopolitan. Mike Massé isn't that kind of act.
But he is a big deal.
You see, Massé does covers - the most polished, note-perfect, put-your-coffee-down-and-pay-attention covers you're likely to come across on the interwebs. Along with bassist Jeff Hall, sometimes a few gizmos, and the occasional guest singer, each cover Massé uploads to his YouTube channel receives hundreds of thousands of views. And for good reason. Check out his rendition of Toto's "Africa" and tell me you aren't impressed when his tenor beats the chorus into submission. Bonus points for the Rush shirt:
Or The Cranberries's "Linger" as he sings the backing female vocal parts AND the strings without a hint of difficulty:
And that's only scratching the surface of his eclectic repertoire.
I've followed Massé now for a few years checking his gig schedule somewhat regularly. It's a rare occasion to see him make it west of Salt Lake City so I'm absolutely ecstatic that he's begun regular appearances at Mizuya Lounge at Mandalay Bay, Thursday through Saturday, generally on the third or fourth week of every month for the foreseeable future. If you're lingering a little longer after VIMFP (he's at Mizuya October 23 - 25) or happen to be in town any other time he's playing, don't miss him.
In a city where a dude behind a MacBook Pro provides nearly all the musical entertainment, Mike Massé is an enormously talented breath of fresh air.

Thanks for the heads up Mike, too bad VIMFP activities are going to make it difficult to see him this trip.
Holy cow, this guy is fantastic. Thanks Mike!
Wow, I can't really believe how good he is...let me rephrase, I can't believe how good THEY are. That's a nice combo with Brenda singing. It might allow Mike to take a break from singing for a few songs with her singing a few solo. Great for a Vegas lounge.
I am in LV with a colleague on Oct 23, but he's going to be more focused on football that night and we're staying at Cosmo so MB is a long haul...but I'll try.
Why are these guys stuck in a Utah pizza joint?
I love Africa, great song.
Watching a live recording with the orig. artists would be great, but I guarantee these guys sound better!
