The Best Western Premier Downtown Grand
VT reader @dicerunner21 noticed something about the rooms at Downtown Grand.

I've been in Downtown Grand rooms twice, a tour of every room model tier during a pre-opening tour of the property and again when rearranging the furniture in Blackjacker's room during VT10 weekend. I took generous amounts of photos of all the rooms both times. Looking back at those photos... there are no drinking glasses or cups in any of these. These may be new. These may be old.
Really, who cares about cups. Well, we do. And here's why. Best Western hotels require their members to adopt the name "Best Western" as part of their branding, but are allowed to keep their existing name as well as in Best Western PLUS Casino Royale. Best Western hotels come in three tiers - Best Western (standard), Best Western Plus (better) and Best Western Premier. Because it has a casino and is located in the heart of the Las Vegas Strip, Casino Royale gets a "PLUS" designation. I'll spitball that DTG's Best Western name would be Best Western Premier Downtown Grand.
There's only one problem. Downtown Grand is part of the Ascend Collection, which is a boutique selection of hotels curated by Best Western's arch competitor - Choice Hotels, owners of Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, Clarion, EconoLodge, Rodeway Inn and many other hotel brands.
Imagine if Bellagio had a Cosmopolitan pen and notepad in every room.
Why would Downtown Grand have items in their hotel containing competitors branding? A hotel supply snafu? Cost cutting surplus sale? And even if so... how could management allow this to happen? Someone - probably a chain of people - had to sign for the delivery, stack it in the supply room, open the boxes and place 2 cups in each of their 634 rooms, multiple times per week. Nobody noticed.

A Note Of Thanks

Comments & Discussion:
I understand the frustration. One time I found a Planet Hollywood hooker in my room at the Mirage.
My guess is a supplier snafu in which they shipped a case or two of the wrong cups. Working for a coffee company, we have this happen every now and then, but our company doesn't use branded cups (The company doesn't have the space in the warehouse for the minimum order for cups with their name on them.), so when the mistake happens, we still sell the case (some accounts aren't as picky as others). But if it's a case in which multiple cases of the wrong design were shipped, they send them all back.
Or the glass was left in the room by the previous resident, who had previously stayed in a Best Western, and housekeeping just rinsed the glass (we hope) and put it back in its spot.
Well, that's a plastic cup, so hopefulyl it wasn't washed and put back
RobbieNomi, don't you just hate when that happens. Or you were expecting a Wynn Ho and the Pho shows up, talk about frustrating. Certainly not swiping my card on her!!!!
@weatherman2111...with everything I've been hearing about Downtown Grand, I think you're being optimistic!
