Comments & Discussion:
Well he better hope he gets one fast or these will be on sale the day the place opens.
Considering how many years he's had to get a gaming license, what's the hold up? He never applied for one back when the Sahara was still open, even though when SBE/Stockbridge acquired the Sahara in 2007 and Navegante was supposed to operate the casino for a year (with the potential for four three month extensions beyond that) while the new owners got licensed. It has been rumored that the reason why the Sahara closed when it did is because Gaming Control refused to extend the contract for Navegante to continue to operate the casino as none of the SBE/Stockbridge folks. There's also been rumors that Sam Nazarian may not be able to get a gaming license.
Those usually happen late in the process; Steve Wynn had his licensing hearing for The Mirage in October (it opened in November). What often happens now is that the Gaming Commission will issue a finding of "suitability" before construction begins, which basically means "we don't see any reason why we wouldn't give you a license when you apply for real close to opening."
I don't know why the licensing comes so late in the process, but I know it was a big issue in Atlantic City, where several companies had finished resorts before running into licensing issues.
My guess is that most of the heavy lifting is done months before the hearing, and that if any issues come up during the investigation, they would be dealt with earlier.
This picture makes it look like a warehouse with slot machines and ugly carpet inside. Is there more decor than this suggests?
