MGM Adding EV Chargers, Tesla Supercharger Opens
Great news for fellow electric vehicle owners, MGM Resorts International announced last week that they will be building 27 Level 2 electric vehicle chargers in their Las Vegas resorts as well as at their corporate offices.
The chargers will be part of the ChargePoint EV network, and should be completed by the end of February 2014.
Now if only they could do something about the highways that get us to Vegas. C'mon Murren.... sponsor some chargers along the 15!
VT reader James from Oxnard tells us that the Tesla Supercharger at 701 Bridger Avenue officially opened yesterday with six super high speed charging bays.

Looking at ChargePoint's maps, that is a pretty huge gap between Barstow and Primm and only the Tesla Model S has the range to make it and on top of that it will still have enough range to make Vegas. There's several spots along I-15 that would make sense to built a charging station, but who will be willing to make the investment in such facilities. Considering it is in the middle of the Mojave Desert, it's a no-brainer to make the facilities solar-powered.
Right now it isn't really plausible to drive a non-Tesla EV through the desert, particularly during the worst of the heat. In addition to the heat, there are three mountain ranges to traverse... even with regenerative braking (coasting recharges the battery - great for downhill) you won't have enough juice to make it from stop to stop and if you did... you'd be stuck there charging for about six hours each way.
really Tesla website. tell me downtown container park is nearby for the third time.

But all EV buyers knew that going in Chuck. Like Porsches being souped up VW's, especially all the ones until the 996's, EV's are just souped up golf carts. Tesla S being the exception but even that fine piece of technology has only proliferated by 10's of 1000's of $$$$ per vehicle of taxpayer subsides and credits to a billionaire.
I truly thank George W. Bush for signing the Energy Policy Act of 2005 which provided funding, loan guarantees and incentives for electric vehicles. Smart R&D investment.
