Sayonara: Wynn $8 Chinese New Year Chips
Sadly, the slightly oversized and gloriously collectible Wynn $8 Chinese New Year Chips have been discontinued. Every year since 2006, Wynn has created a new custom pink chip honoring the animal for which it has been named. So far, dog, pig, rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon and snake have been immortalized in limited editions of 5000 chips each.
According to employees at Wynn Las Vegas, Nevada Gaming Control has put the kibosh on the $8 chip program, stating that the oversize $8 chips were never used in play so therefore can't be produced and sold. Booooo!
The tradition will continue however, with limited edition Year of The Horse chips being produced in standard sized $1 denomination. Year of the Horse chips will make their debut next Saturday, February 1st. Someone snag me one!
Big thanks to JohnH for raiding the vault at Wynn!

Bummer! I snagged the dragon version last year...who knew that would be the last. It really stands out in the chip case.
I wanted to bet hard 8's with them, but the cage said they couldn't be played - nice chips though.
What? have all the chips been discontinued? We just started collecting them a few years ago wherever we went?
Bummer..
I hate that these are gone, and I've never bought or seen one. It's the issue that many of these corporations and government agencies work to make such immaterial things so generic and conformist. Blech, I can get generic conformity here in the Midwest.
Does anybody know where I can buy the dragon one? I've looked on eBay. Nada.
