Analyze This Downtown Grand Blackjack Photo

As previously mentioned, the Downtown Grand soft opened yesterday, sending a wide range of Vegas cognoscenti heading to the tables to help push the property out of dry dock.

Of those spotted was The D's owner and VIMFP host with the most Mr. Derek Stevens and his lovely wife Nicole. The first family of The D piled on some pink chips and hit the felt running. But...

Hrm. First hand out of the shoe. Derek hits a 13 with the dealer showing a 3. He looks like he's going to hit that 16 again. Does anybody remember if they sell basic strategy cards in the D gift shop? Obviously Derek knows how to play blackjack, he's got his wife, daughter and head of the games department at The D also on the table. Could this be Derek - sitting in the catbird seat at 3rd base - making a big production of purposefully busting. Knowing what a generous and thoughtful guy he is, I certainly wouldn't doubt it.

The house always wins, except when the house goes and visits another house and purposefully loses?

Comments & Discussion:

I don't know what "D man" is thinking, or even why he's playing a shoe-dealt table.

But I am pleased to see a lack of continuous shuffling machines.

Maybe he learned to play from some of the hipsters at the Cosmopolitan?
