Some years ago we asked one of rock 'n' roll's master showmen, David Bowie, for his take on Wayne Newton. He replied: "There's something disturbing about him. I guess it's the legend that goes along with him. It's the ambiguousness of the baby face and the criminal connections that make him, probably, the All-American entertainer. And, he's real folksy, isn't he? It's quite a juxtaposition."
