Nik Wallenda Skywalks Las Vegas

Like nearly everyone in the universe, I was glued to the television last weekend watching wire walking daredevil Nik Wallenda (of the Flying Wallendas) make his way from one side of the Grand Canyon to another. His feat instantly transported me back to the 1970s hey day of Evil Knieval and his myriad attempts to jump, fly and catapult his twice shattered skeleton over any and every object, landmark and chasm he could convince ABC to film him at.

At the completion of his walk - sponsored by Jesus Brand Jeans - Nik was asked where his next feat would take place. Without mentioning specifics, he stated that his desire was to wire walk between two skyscrapers in New York City.

Which got me thinking... where would Nik Wallenda do his Vegas walk?

Obvious choices are walks between sister towers on the same property.

Wire walking from Encore to Wynn. Imagine sitting at the Eastside Bar as his body splats all over the glare free windows. Might be awesome! Steve might embrace this type of showmanship... expect a Garth Brooks tie in.

Wire walking from Venetian to Palazzo. Doubt that Venetian owner (Uncle) Sheldon Adelson would invite a guy hollaring about Jesus every .5 seconds to perform a stunt at his properties.

Fontainebleau is the tallest building in town, save the Stratosphere tower. A walk from it to finished Resorts World hotel tower could be a real show stopper - if there were anybody up there besides construction workers.

Nik Wallenda wire walks between countries - from the top of Paris' Eiffel Tower to the coupla dome atop Bellagio as the fountains buzz away below. A smart showman might purposefully fall into the drink on this one.

The CityCenter Superfecta! Wire walk from Mandarin Oriental to Veer to Harmon to Vdara to Aria. Aria could use the marketing stunt... then again.

Comments & Discussion:

Nik's brother-in-law, Tony Hernandez (Who is one of the Esteemed Gentlemen Of The High Wire from the Trippie Award Winning show Absinthe.) in March of 2012 proposed a walk from Caesars Palace to the Flamingo and back. The kicker was that the return leg would feature a celebrity riding on his shoulders. The alternative path he proposed was over the fountains at Caesars Palace. Nothing ever became of the plans though.

The NYC Skywalk will never happen, as the Mayor and the Police Commissioner quickly shot down any thoughts of one.

The New York walk would have been from the Chrysler building to the Empire State - around 4000 feet long. To do something this grand in Vegas he could be hanging at the Mandarin's fine pools and decide he wants a drink so he walks a wire stretching to Mix at The Hotel

Can he do it near the Cosmo? This way, we can take advantage of the balconies and throw things at him.
I haven't heard anyone thank Jeebus that much since ol' Timmy Tebow.

In Vespajet's scenario, I nominate any of the Kardashians to ride on the walker's shoulders.

Ahhhhh no! He refuses to walk CityCenter.

He could walk on the Rio zip line?

According to this web page:
"Harrah’s had a grand remodel re-opening in 1997, and Harry Connick, Jr., entertained at the Carnaval Court. Tino Wallenda, son of legendary tight-rope walker Karl Wallenda, walked 139 feet across a 1-inch steel cable, 99 feet above the ground. Celebrities also appeared included Sidney Poitier, Sandra Bullock, Minnie Driver, Stephen Baldwin, Lea Thompson, Mike Bergin, Dick Butkus and Steve and Elaine Wynn."
