New York New York To Quietly Remove 9/11 Memorial
After further inspection of materials related to The Park project, we have ascertained that the forthcoming renovation of the exterior of New York New York will include renovation of the entire area surrounding the Statue of Liberty. The area at the corner of the property will be completely renovated to better capture and serve foot traffic taht spills out from the bridge to the Mandalay Mile.
One unfortunate casualty of this renovation may be the removal of the 9/11 memorial cases. Should MGM decide to remove it, we certainly expect it to be done quietly with little fanfare.
As many remember, the base of New York New York's Statue of Liberty became a focal point for Las Vegas locals and tourists alike to express their grief in the wake of the tragedies of September 11, 2001. For years, first responders, grieving families and ordinary citizens left flowers, mementos and countless tears at the base of the statue. Mandalay Resort Group MGM constructed a glass case to store and preserve these items, which was permanently attached to the barrier surrounding the reflecting pool.

Comments & Discussion:
Mandalay never owned NYNY. It has always been an MGM Grand production, originally in conjunction with the folks who owned Primm when they wanted a joint on the Strip to call their own. Whenever Gary Primm decided to cash out, part of the reason it made sense for MGM to buy those stateline resorts was to get their hands fully on NYNY.
The cases probably weren't intended to last forever. The "preserved" stuff was fading away anyway.
Error noted. Thank you.
Yeah, but it would still be nice if they kept some small something there after the remodel.
Also, to compete with other MGM properties, the statue should shot out flames while the fire boats around it shot dancing water!
They only try to attract the douchebags these days, so the fireboats should shoot vinegar and water.
I think moat people have forgotten the memorial wwas there since the moving staircase seems to be out of order most of the time. I would guess that some of the memorial will end up somewhere but who knows?
