Long Live Rock

For my money, nothing, I mean nothing, comes close to the roar created by amplifying the magnetized vibrations of a metal string that is being manipulated by bonafide experts.

Your hair blows back. Pants flap. The earth lies at your feet, the stars point the way, your soul becomes a lightning rod searching out ever elusive heliostatic connection to the evermore and high bandwidth streaming of sonic bliss' orgasmic transom.

And for those not on LSD, "Dude, they played side 2 of Tattoo You in its entirety!'"

The specifics are simple and come in a group of three:

The Rolling Stones are doing a very short tour to mark their 50th anniversary. The tour will hit Las Vegas at the MGM Grand's Grand Garden Arena on May 11, 2013. Specific ticket information for this date (and all tourdates) is forthcoming and can be found here.

I grew up a Beatles fan - dedication enforced by my older brother - until a free thinking neighbor introduced me to Tattoo You, marijuana and Jack Daniels in 1981 at the ripe old age of 11 years old. Hot Rocks followed. Then Sticky Fingers, Through The Past Darkly, December's Children, Some Girls, Let It Bleed and so on and so on and so on. At 14, I told my Dad I wanted a Stones tongue tattoo, adding that I could probably do it myself, perfectly, since I spent more time drawing them than I did doing homework, ever. Eventually, the Stones tongues were replaced by Iron Maiden logos. The Stones remained close to my heart, even as I grew skeptical of their ability to tear it up... as evidenced by a tremendous show in a torrential downpour at Dodgers Stadium in 1997. They're the fucking Stones man.

Prince has announced that he will perform a weekend of dates inside The Joint at the Hard Rock, two shows per night (8pm & 11:30pm) on Friday April 26th and Saturday April 27th. Tickets can be found here.

The smart money gets tickets to both shows on Saturday night. I'll wager that the late show on each night will be loose... super loose... and feature some extended jams and some typically scorching guitar solos from the maestro. I had the pleasure to enjoy a late night, last minute announced gig at the House of Blues in LA which was one of the best concerts I've ever heard. The band ambled up on stage and played 4 hours of deep cuts, soul classics and about an hours worth of mind bending virtuosity on the Telecaster. Every gig from that tour contained a series of "holy shit" moments, as any and every Prince fan will tell you.

Motley Crue has announced that they are returning to The Joint at the Hard Rock for a 12 show residency - September 18th to October 6th. Tickets are available here.

Praise be to the lords of rock and roll. Motley Crue, Guns & Roses, Def Leppard... could this be the Hard Rock's answer to middle merica's Celine, Rod and Shania - a rotating array of residencies by rock's greats who refuse to surrender their creativity for the the riches of easy listening? Count me in.

Comments & Discussion:

That's the best news I've heard all day! I'd already planned to be in Vegas that week, first for the Mayweather fight and then for Vegas Uncorked. Now my only problem is getting tickets! LOL

If the Hard Rock really wanted to up the firepower they'd give Rammstein a residency...

can we move VIMPF so I can got to Crue and VIMPF?

Dazed and Confused,

Good luck on that Spyder, I was hoping for the same last year to see Axl. Glad to see the strip continues to book rock acts.

I saw Guns N' Roses last Nov at their Residency. It was a lot of fun ! it's cool how the Hard Rock theme's their property, with the artist who's playing there.
