Four Queens Opens Girth Bar
Downtown has a new spot for imbibing, as the Four Queens Hotel and Casino has opened Girth Bar, a tuna can-shaped watering hole sheepishly tucked away across from the casino's back exit. Industry observers have suggested that Girth Bar appears to be Four Queens answer to "LONGBAR" located at neighboring resort The D.
But Four Queens Food and Beverage Director Andrew Romine disputes that notion. "Let's face it - not all of us have a long bar. You do the best with what you've got. We promise you, if you try Girth Bar, you'll get your fill, and then some."
On a recent Saturday night, LONGBAR was filled to capacity, while Girth Bar was nearly empty.
Mob Museum Adds Swedish House Mafia Exhibit
The National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement, or the "Mob Museum" as it is more commonly known, has added an exhibit devoted to international mobsters Swedish House Mafia. Associate Museum Director Ken Gastalobucci explained that the exhibit is intended to bring awareness to the ongoing crimes of the international syndicate, while not glorifying its wrongdoings.
"These people are responsible for a wide range of atrocities. The repetitive, pre-programmed beats. The complicity in selling $12.00 bottles of alcohol for $400.00. But we're an educational facility, and we just present the facts. It's up to the public to decide whether to pass judgment."
The Swedish House Mafia exhibit will remain in Las Vegas every single weekend for the foreseeable future, whether you want it to or not.
Sigma Derby Horse Euthanized
Players of the popular Sigma Derby horse racing simulator at MGM Grand were stunned and saddened when the Number 3 horse broke its tiny, bakelite leg and was euthanized by a track worker on site.
"We'd been playing for a couple of hours," said Bob Coleman, a tourist from Kenosha, Wisconsin. "When the next race started, we seen the three horse go down right out of the gate. And his leg, he was hurt real bad. It was just hanging there, real tough to look at."
Coleman described the scene as the animal was humanely put out of its misery. "Next thing we seen, a trap door popped open, and a little papier mache guy comes out - he could've been stamped tin, I'm not all that sure - but anyhow, he goes over to the animal and, there was just nothing he could do for it, so he had to shoot it. That part was actually pretty neat. They must use like a cap or something because there was a pop and a little puff of smoke. I kind of hope it happens again, to tell you the truth."
