Peter Gabriel at Planet Hollywood Oct 5, 2012

Speaking of living legends, Peter Gabriel has announced that he will be touring a performance of his breakthrough solo album So in its entirety, featuring the original musicians who recorded it. The show makes a stop in Vegas on Friday October 5, 2012 in the Theater For Performing Arts at Planet Hollywood.

Forty years later, Peter is probably still best known for his eccentric contributions to Genesis during their early 1970's conceptual art/progressive rock period. The thread of theatricality and general oddness continued through Peter's solo work in the 1980's until he hit pop pay dirt with 1986's "So."

Wall to wall hits and packed stem to stern with amazing musicianship. "So" is a tour de force of Peter Gabriel's pop creativity and Daniel Lanois ambient production techniques tethered to the real world by Tony Levin's earth shattering bass and Chapman stick performances, a delicious rumble which alone is worth the price of admission.

The question is... if this is an "original cast" revival will Kate Bush, Nile Rodgers, Laurie Anderson, Daniel Lanois, Stewart Copeland, L. Shankar and Youssou N'Dour all be reprising their iconic performances during the tour? Knowing Gabriel's obsession with technology... we can guess they will all be in attendance via the magic of sampling... including deceased Qawwali master singer Ustad Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan.

Yeah folks... there is real and great music happening in Las Vegas.

Tickets at the Ticketmaster.

I guess he chose the Friday before VIMFP so that the level of awesomeness in Vegas doesn't throw the Earth's axis off..... ;)

I'm surprised that he's not doing it as an orchestral reworking ala New Blood (which is actually a pretty good reworking of some of his most well-known songs).

One of my all-time concert regrets was not getting to see him when he did "The Secret World Live" tour in support of "Us". I was out of town the night he performed here in Atlanta and I heard that it was an incredible concert.

I didn't even realize he was touring until I got the Total Rewards email this morning. I was prepared to book this show, but then found out he is going to be at Red Rocks the week before and I am thrilled to have the ticketmaster receipt in my Inbox already. Should be an outstanding show in any venue. Saw him on the Growing Up tour years ago. He was rather sick that night, but still put on one hell of a show.

Damn, I have to see this.

NY, Philly and then...Detroit? What the hell? No DC date? *humph*

@weatherman2111, I was surprised to not see any date for Atlanta either, which means that either he never planned to do a show here or there wasn't any suitable venues available.

I too did not know he was touring until I received the Total Rewards email. Bummer, I will not be able to attend this show.

People age differently. Compare Peter now to his So albumn cover and in the video Sledgehammer. Drastic changes.

Although some people may consider the lyrics to Family Snapshot disturbing, I find the music 'moving'. To me, some interesting lyrics: "All you people in TV land, I will wake up your empty shells, peak time viewing blown in a flash, as I burn into your memory cells"

Interesting that this is an arena sized show going in a big theater venue. I would have figured he'd go for one of MGM's arenas.
