There's a whole lot of history associated with the piece of land,¬ beginning in the early 1950's with the opening of the Desert Inn Hotel. That resort eventually became home to the reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes. Then,¬ years later,¬ new owners tried to build something called theDesert Kingdom .

Eleven years ago this property was owned by ITT-Sheraton,¬ and they knew it was a good spot to build a mega-resort,¬ but Steve Wynn had already built a hotel with a volcano¬ and another one with a pirate battle,¬ so they came up with something even bigger!
