Geoff Tate of Queensryche at Hard Rock
Geoff Tate, singer of concept-album-based metal band Queensryche is playing a rare solo show with a small acoustic backing band this Friday night (April 27th) at Body English inside the Hard Rock.
I've seen Queensryche three times that I can remember, first as semi-unknowns opening for Iron Maiden during the World Slavery Tour in 1985 and the other two times opening for Metallica during the And Justice For All tour in 1989. All three performances were stellar. I've loved their 4 song self-titled EP, their debut LP The Warning, proto new-wave metal Rage For Order, political thriller Operation:Mindcrime but sorta fell off the wagon when Empire came out at least until the Operation:Mindcrime II sequel was released in 2006.
Here's "The Chase" featuring the late fucking insanely great Ronnie James Dio as "Doctor X."
Mr. Tate will be performing "solo material and Queensryche classics" - I had no idea he put out solo albums. Either way, Geoff has one of the best voices in all of metal and at $30+ tax tags and smog check, this intimate affair might be an excellent night of music.

Please disregard previous post. I last saw Ronnie James back in his early 80's "Dio" solo days - and except for less hair he looked and sounded pretty much the same as in that 2007 video. Super cool.
Queensryche came to town back in 2004 and we saw them in a theatre. They played their hits for the first set; and the second set was Operation Mindcrime in it's entirety. Some actors on the stage playing character parts while the band perfomed a heavy metal opera. Super cool - although Geoff was paunchy and had lost an octave. I remember when Mindcrime came out it totally blew me away. It was kinda Pink Floyd's "The Wall" for our age group.
