Calling all metal heads! This year is shaping up to be a great one for live music... one of our early picks for tour of the year - a mind bending triple bill featuring alternating headliners Mastodon and Opeth plus support by Swedish Satan rockers Ghost - have finally announced their long rumored tour.

The 30 date "Heritage Hunter Tour" includes a stop at the House of Blues (Mandalay Bay) on April 25th. In addition, they have made note that for this show, Mastodon will be the headliner.

Ticket presale starts TOMORROW on Mastodon's website (linked above.) General ticket sales start on Feb 3rd at Ticketmaster.com. Our friends at Blabbermouth have the full U.S. itinerary including demarcations of who is headlining when.

I've seen Opeth and Mastodon in the last year and both were phenomenal. I even had the pleasure of meeting Opeth mastermind Mikael Akerfelt post-Priest show at the Hard Rock's center bar during VIMFP weekend.... he was - as expected - undeniably cool and hysterically droll.

Don't miss!

Opeth : "Pyre" (Live)

Mastodon: "Colony of Birchmen"

Ghost: "Intro", "Clavi Con Dio", "Elizabeth" (Live)

Bleh. Gimme some classic 70's Scorpions or UFO. Fast Eddy Clarke era Motorhead. Early Saxon. Even Budgie if you wanna get into wierd funky metal stuff. Jeez even Master of Puppets for something "newer".

^^Sorry, dude. We are living in an era where a band like High On Fire, Enslaved, Wolves In The Throne Room and yes, Mastodon, would burn the pubes off of those 70's dinosaurs.

That being said, why can't I go to Vegas whenever I damn well want to?

Sorry dood. No one said you couldn't go to Vegas whenever you damm well want to. I know I'm a dinosaur. It's all a matter of taste.

But please do go to Vegas whenever you want to.

the lineage extends from beethoven to infinity. we are all metal. even dinosaurs. :)

My uncle's band was called Dinosaur Pubes. They rocked.

Gettign that tour in DC about 10 days later. Should be epic. I saw Mastodon's last club show here and it was one of the best shows of the year.

Mr. Bastard, I was implying that work, wife, life, etc. won't allow a Vegas trip every 3 weeks, not you. But I thank you for your blessings.

I respect the dinosaurs, but I feel that some of the metal that's out there today is the most exciting music of our era. It would be a shame if people didn't take the time to appreciate it.

Really, really tempted to reschudule an upcoming trip for this. What a great bill.
