Pencil: Mirage Black Friday Sale

Mirage rolled out their Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale yesterday to try and drum up stays during the holidays with a vague offering of discounted rates. The question is, is it worth it to book Vegas or grab that gigantic plasma TV or fridge you've been lusting after.

Here's how it works.... if you book on:

Thanksgiving day = 15% off.

Black Friday = 10% off.

Cyber Monday = Undetermined.

The fine print always tells the truth.

Thanksgiving:

To receive 20% off, plus an EXTRA 15% off guests must book by November 24, 2011 at 11:59pm (PST).

Black Friday:

To receive 20% off, plus an EXTRA 10% off, guests must book by November 25, 2011 at 11:59pm (PST).

Cyber Monday:

To receive 20% off guests must book by November 28, 2011 at 11:59pm (PST).

And the boilerplate:

Rate is per room/suite, per night based on single or double occupancy plus 12% tax. A daily resort fee of $20 plus tax will be added to your room account, which includes select hotel amenities. Guests must be at least 21 years of age to check in.

A cursory check of NON-deal rates for a fictional three night stay - arriving Tuesday December 6 and departing Friday December 9 - shows deal rates of Tue $85, Wed $76, Thu $110. A second check on a different browser using standard, non-discount reservation for the same dates reveals rates of Tue $79, Wed $79, Thu $119.

Deal Date Non-Deal Diff
$85 Tue $79 +$6
$76 Wed $79 -$3
$110 Thu $119 -$9

It is quite possible that the rates won't be adjusted until the exact day of the sale. If they aren't - and decreased over $18 per night - screw the Mirage and go get the TV.
