Riviera

The haunting continues at the Riviera with the launch of a brand new website, which happily outlines all the changes they've made over the last few months.

Gone: Kristofer's Steakhouse, replaced by R Steak & Seafood.

Gone: Kady's Coffee Shop, renamed Poolside Cafe.

Gone: Ristorante Italiano, replaced by Banana Leaf Asian Restaurant.

Gone: World's Fare Buffet, renamed The Riv Buffet.

Gone: Sportsbook Bar & Grill.

Gone: Kentucky Fried Chicken and Burger King, replaced with Hot Wings and Big Burger.

I had the pleasure of sharing breakfast at the Poolside Cafe with the honorable Dr. Dave Schwartz the morning we stormed G2E. The food was well prepared, but overpriced for a poolside greasy spoon. Perhaps my favorite part of the morning was walking through the casino while Dr. Dave pointed out which parts of the casino floor belonged to which stratum of Riviera's history as the property slowly crept towards The Strip.

The Riviera is in serious motion right now, including the poker room.

FYI, the poker room's moving/has moved to the front of the casino. I'm not sure it's the best location, but what do I know?

VT Article Of The Year.

^^ you must have low standards

They've got some pretty decent room rate offers right now. I just ran the dates of my December trip, and some of the various offers would be tempting if the Riv had more going for it location-wise. If Echelon, Fontainebleau and Sahara were open and not just blights on the local landscape, those rates would tempt me a lot more. I'll be sticking to my current reservations at at Caesars Palace.

That doesn't mean I don't have an opinion, sweet cheeks.

Jealous. I think I'd pay money to walk around the strip and hear things like this, or even just watch a video.

Banana Leaf has been around awhile, The Queen Victoria Pub is where Ristorante Italiano was. I too ate in the Poolside and thought it was a good value considering the large portions... My benedict had 3 egg-muffins instead of the typical 2, a mound of potatoes to make Idaho jealous, and they started us off with a complimentary popover/muffin thingy... You also forgot to mention they recently opened the only BINGO on the strip.

I haven't confirmed in person, but the Riviera has also supposedly eyed providing some gambling perks on the floor as well. One that I'm pretty sure has changed is offering low level single zero roulette. For a while they were also offering free rooms to anyone with a competing properties card that called and asked for it, I believe it was for 2 nights (weekdays) but it's the type of thing I think these low tier properties need to do. Cultivate the low/to mid tier gambler. Provide the experience the other places have no interest in doing.

Here's hoping that the above article fortells a VT room review.

I visited the Queen Vic back in March and the place was a bit dead for lunchtime on a Thursday, I'm guessing they do a lot of business on the weekends for EPL matches. The food I ordered was a bit meh (some of it was obviously frozen or canned items procured from their food service provider), but the beer selection is nice.

Good to see they arent wasting money on professional signage - love the 'marker pen on whiteboard' thing!

Wait, am I to understand they now have bingo on the Strip!!? That's my total "sober up" game. Seriously, when I'm way to f'in drunk to even stand, I can always go sober myself up with a coupla hours and rounds of bingo.
I like the creative name for the wing place. HOT WINGS. LoL Very creative.

as long as you can still get the GIANT BLT at Kadys, uhhh, Poolside Cafe all is good at the Riv. Gawd I miss that sandwich, I think I'll cook of 2 rashers of bacon right now, put it between two slices of wonderbread and chow down

Bingo at the Riv. That is friggin' awesome.
