Tropicana Sends Nikki Beach Packing
As you may have heard, The Tropicana has unceremoniously given Nikki Beach the boot after only being open for part of one pool season. This change has has been rumored for quite some time.
The press release pretty much sums the whole situation up nicely, including the "fuck you and the horse that you came in on" part between the lines.
The company terminated the Management Agreement due to the failure by NBLV to comply with and perform the covenants, agreements, terms and conditions set forth therein, and NBLV's repudiation of its contractual obligation to achieve a targeted "net income" for the clubs. Following the termination, the company has taken over management of the clubs.
I concluded the original post announcing the Nikki Beach project by saying:
Renovating the Trop = great idea. Trying to get it to compete with The Mirage = dicey uphill battle
We knew this was going to be a tough sell, but I'm a little shocked that the Trop gave Nikki barely four months before sending their teepees packing. The numbers must have been incredibly bad.
Seven out.

Comments & Discussion:
I certainly envisioned Nikki Beach to be more successful. But here's what I wasn't guessing on:
Nikki Beach's in other locations appeal to a reasonably wide range of people and aren't so dependent on doing the "celeb" thing. For some reason, Nikki Beach here tried to keep up with the "who has a bigger celeb event this weekend" trend.
This was probably not only very expensive (thus damaging any bottom line) but also not conducive to attracting a larger target audience with a greater age variety who have the deep pockets to spend at Nikki in a regular basis. And NOT conducive to the clientele that The Trop is after.
Maybe this is the beginning of the end of worthless, untalented psuedo-celebrities pulling in 5 figure checks for making a 10 second appearance. Why would I pay $500 for a $25 bottle of vodka to see a Kardashian when I can just gaze into an unflushed toilet for the same effect?
What about an LSD-themed dayclub pool/nightclub club? Maybe not so much of a big draw, but the lights sure are pretty.
What sandy said. And BigHoss may be on to something too.
Mmmm LSD
On a serious note though, maybe the Trop was trying to hard to make itself exclusive when in reality it's still just a mid tier resort. I think it can pull off a day club scene but do it at a more affordable level for us "regular people" who like to party and have a good time, but not be surrounded by douchebags and wannabe rich kids. Like what the Rockhouse at IP did. They had like $75-$100 bottle service. Cheapest on the Strip, plus they played good rock music and had a good crowd there. Cute chicks in torn jeans and tight white tank tops. Sad that Rockhouse will probably be gone soon if it isn't already. Not everyone wants to be part of the wannabe rich crowd. I probably have and make more money than any of those "I live in on my credit card and have endless debt but look at all the brand name shit I have" crowd. But looking at my husband and I, we're both skater-ish people who dress kinda grungy and I'm covered in tattoos. We don't have to let the world know that we have money because it's a LOT MORE FUN being yourself and not trying to impress anyone.
Perhaps this is the start of a trend. Appealing to the ever shrinking pool of pseudo-celebrities and ezpecting people to come in an see them may have been the in thing at one point but those people have a short self life. Isnt Spencer Pratt selling bananas on the streets of LA already?
Gosh, if Brittany Spears can't draw a crowd.. what hope does the place have? She's the biggest celebri---... oh shit, it's 2011 not 1998.
I thought this place was supposed to be edgy.. I mean they had advertisements with young hotties ejaculating champagne all over their guest rooms.. how could this place fail? After all, ejaculation and Las Vegas go hand in hand.
