Fine Print Dept: PetStay and the Marriage Penalty

With all the discussion recently about Caesars PetStay pricing, we've got an on the ground report of a recent PetStay experience at Paris, courtesy of VT reader Mr. K including some enlightening information about "Additional Person Charges" for those traveling with children. Take it away Mr. K:

I decided to get to the bottom of that PetStay situation so my wife, baby and I booked a comped PetStay Luxury at Paris. I couldn't wait to add the dog bowl and treats to the piles of shampoo and soap I have from my tours of Vegas. When checking in, they inquired to where my dog was. Like most things in my life, I blame my mother-in-law and say she'll be bringing the dog later. At that point, they explain that although the room was comped, there would be a $30 per night fee for my 16 month old. Huh? Apparently, the fine print states single parents with one child are free but you get Caesars marriage penalty of $30/night if both mommy and daddy are present. Now that I'm back home, I wanted to search for the fine print and sure enough I found it under terms & conditions when booking...

The fine print:

ADDITIONAL PERSON CHARGES
Maximum occupancy is four persons per room. There is an additional nightly fee of $30 per person for rooms with more than 2 occupants, regardless of age. Note: if you have one adult and one child and you book online, you will see the additional charge but this will be adjusted upon check-in.

So I started to raise a stink at the front desk and even the couple next to us checking in started complaining on our behalf. Finally, they agreed to waive the $30/night fee for my 16 month old. I never actually received my dog bowls or treats. Yes, I had to complete a 6 page waiver and they said they would send up the stuff...never happened. We called the front desk on day 2 but they said we had to call house keeping. We called house keeping but they said it was a building maintenance issue and were going to transfer us. Then the phone went dead.

Comments & Discussion:

No resort fees, but this sort of hidden stuff (Honestly, nobody fully reads the fine print of the Terms and Conditions. For all we know, we've signed our souls away to someone because it was buried in the fine print.). I could understand if you were trying to put the entire Griswold clan into a singe room and charging them this fee, but this is as bad as the resort fee. At the very least, have the age in which this starts at say 2 or 3 years old and be less sneaky about it.

I've heard about chasing comps, but booking a PetStay room just to get the dog bowl and treats takes the cake!

Better check Terms and Conditions. Maybe dog guests have to sign for the complimentary bowser basket.

At least you didn't sign yourself up to be included in the human centipede experiment.

That doesn't make any sense. Caesars has always had the policy that on a comped room, you could have up to four people without any extra charge.
