ARIA Submits Plans For Strip Side Marquee

As we reported they would way back in November 2010, ARIA has submitted plans to build a new strip side marquee, not all that different from the one we photoshopped.

The 260 foot tall marquee (*ahem* rip off of Cosmopolitan) will be built at the corner of Harmon and Las Vegas boulevard and feature "2 large convex sign faces" (*ahem* ripoff of Wynn) with each sign face featuring ARIA logos in white. The sign will be built in "charcoal metallic Alucobond skin (apolic aluminum and resin composite)" so it fits in with the modernist City Center surroundings.

The integration of expansive multi-channel video display areas, large and small scale logos, and a sleek contemporary design, the proposed pylon sign will without question serve to energize, animate and enhance the Las Vegas Strip at this location. From a pedestrian standpoint (both at the street and bridge level), the lower pylon structure will effectively interact with surrounding building elements in a playful manner, thus serving to complement and augment adjacent architecture. The primary objectives of the requested signs is the ability to increase brand identity exposure and dynamic venue advertising (specifically along Las Vega Boulevard South) for the CityCenter Resort Hotel, and the successful creation of an iconic and exciting arrival statement for the resort guests accessing the property from this location.

Again, we ask... why didn't you bozos think of putting in a marquee when you built the place?

Here's a dick measuring comparison of what the Cosmopolitan and ARIA marquee's would look like if they were hanging out together.

ARIA's big black marquee wins it in a walk!

Additionally, ARIA plans to renovate that ugly-ass freeway side marquee into something with larger screens and less Flintstones looking "pizzazz."

Thanks to VT super friend and Ft. Lauderdale heartthrob detroit1051 for the tweet tip.

Comments & Discussion:

Does it say who's building this thing?
I saw a rendering of marquee being made by a certain sign company that was able to bid on this project after it was mentioned here on VT.

I thought their Marquee was named "The Harmon."

my money is on the rebar, er, "Alucobond skin" having some sort of defect and they need to take it down in a year.

I would like to see a comparison on sign size versus other locations as a % of Building sq footage. Not sure how to find the info...in other words - I am thinking Cosmo sign is bigger as compared to the size of the hotel/casino than City Center? Thanks!

Come on guys, they are not ripping off Wynn's sign. Wynn's sign is concave not convex. Yeesh. MGM defines innovation!
