We've just received a reader tip ARIA has begun issuing email warning to guests who stayed in the resort during the July 4th weekend that recent water tests have revealed a high level of Legionella, the bacteria that causes Legionnaire's disease.

We have received confirmation on this tip... the email sent out by ARIA is here.

Legionnaire's disease is an acute respiratory infection whose symptoms include chest pain, coughing up blood, fever, gastrointestinal distress in the form of diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain, general malaise, headache, joint pains, chills, shortness of breath, muscle aches, loss of energy and nonproductive cough.

If you stayed at or spent time at ARIA in the last three weeks and are feeling similar symptoms, go see your doctor for medical treatment (usually antibiotics.)

An outbreak of Legionnaire's disease struck the Polo Towers in 2008, infecting at least four visitors, all of whom were treated successfully. The resort underwent a chlorination treatment of all parts of its water supply. Polo Towers had previous outbreak of Legionnaire's bacteria in 2001.

We've been hearing rumblings all day that MGM Resorts was on the precipice of issuing some piece of "bad news" to the news media on Thursday... this very well could be it. For now, we wait and see.

First the Grotto, now Aria. Is no place safe?

When Murren asked for Legionella, he thought it was a cutting edge architect, not a disease.

Well, I'm posting from my room at Aria right now. I've got to hope that if this is legit and they're gearing up to a press release that they've already taken care of the problem.

So is ARIA is on a "boil water" notice??

@trevelbond - i would assume that you are correct. if the property wasn't safe, it would be malicious to allow you to continue to stay there.

Just saw this on ABC7 Los Angeles as well. AWESOME!!!! :D :D :D

Die MGM. Die.
