Styx at The Joint at Hard Rock

I've been listening to Styx since I was 11 years old, when by brother brought home their masterpiece "Paradise Theater" on vinyl. I was transfixed by the songs and the album cover. On one side a gala opening of the Paradise theater in roaring 1920's regalia. The flip side was the same theatre, 60 years later in boarded up decay.

I loved it then and I still love it now.

In quick succession the rest of the Styx back catalogue arrived, most notably Pieces of Eight, Cornerstone and their early masterpiece The Grand Illusion whose themes of alienation in a fame obsessed world are more true now then they were when it was released in 1977. From opening fanfare and invocation accompanied by the delicate interplay of Tommy Shaw and James JY Young's guitars hammered home by JY's wah wah drenched throaty Les Paul guitar solo you get Styx in a nutshell... proto prog coupled with effortless pop melody buttressed by the ability to rock, really rock.

Styx' former frontman Dennis DeYoung is long gone and never to return but the rest of the band is still alive and kicking, at least the ones who are still alive.

So why this sudden Styx appreciation class you ask? Well, I heard it from a friend who heard it from a friend that Styx has hitched up with REO Speedwagon for a show at The Joint at the Hard Rock on September 24th, 2011. Tickets are the same price whether you have a dick or a vagina and range in price from $35-$75.

Welcome to the Grand Illusion!

Fuck Wynn Music Festival! Mr. Roboto instantly gets my vote!

In all the years I've now known Chuck, I didn't know he had a brother.

I wonder what Monsterbrother is like. Curious.

^^ What he said.

I guess if you're in Vegas that weekend and got too much time on your hands, this would be something to do......

He's the exact opposite of me, but with a sense of humor.

Ahh, must be a year with numbers in it, STYX and REO are touring together again. And still no DC/Balmer dates this year. For some reason the STYX/YES(minus the main personality) tour skipped us. *sad face*
