MGM Grand Hotel Renovation To Begin September 2011

Through the magic that is Criss Angel's butt, we have managed to get a hold of the schedule for the pending MGM Grand room renovations which we reconstructed here. Renovations will begin on the 12th floor and work their way down, with an additional floor added each week until a break for new years.

The first phase of construction - pre New Years Eve - will have a construction turnaround schedule of six weeks per floor for demolition, removal and installation of the new fittings, furnishings and fixtures. After a short break for NYE, construction will balloon expand to two floors taken offline each week with 7 week turnaround for even numbered floors and 10 weeks for odd numbered floors.

At its peak, 967 rooms will be offline with a total loss of nearly 250,000 available room nights caused by construction. The entire project will be complete by September 2012... an epic journey for what was once the largest hotel in the world.

The first of MGM Grand's renovated rooms are expected to come back online somewhere around October 21st, 2011... the weekend of the Vegas Internet Mafia Family Picnic. If you book one and get one, let us know!

Comments & Discussion:

The thought of MGM remodeling anything scares me. Haven't they done enough damage? Where are they getting this money? Not that the rooms don't need attention...but still..

Does this include the Skylofts? Mansion?

Hmm may have to book one of the new rooms for my trip.

@mac from what I've seen its only the standard rooms, celebrity and spa suites and corridors. the most dated of the lot.

Yay! Finally! Reason to stay at one of my favorite Vegas hotels.

My boyfriend and I have booked a celebrity suite at MGM Grand for early November (we booked quite a few months ago). With the expected disruption, particularly to the celebrity suites, do you think it's worth cancelling or holding out in hope that we'll get lucky? We're coming over from scotland for a road trip round various bits in America, but Vegas is going to be our blow out at the end so I want to really enjoy myself!

they close complete floors so you will have no disruption. you should contact the hotel a coupla weeks before arriving and ask them to move your reservation to one of the newly renovated rooms. if they have no idea what you're talking about, ask to talk to another agent.

Thanks for your good (and quick) advice Chuckmonster - I will try that option. We are looking to book a few concerts there as well so they should hopefully be accommodating. Until then, I'll be checking this site regularly - it's been a great source of information for me! Thanks again.
