Police have closed their investigation into the death of a television producer from Alabama who plunged from the observation deck of the Stratosphere hotel-casino tower on the Las Vegas Strip.

36-year-old Melanie Bell of Birmingham was found dead March 25 on a third-floor rooftop above the hotel's main entrance.

The Clark County, Nevada, Coroner's office ruled the case a suicide. Las Vegas homicide Lt. Tom Monahan said today the investigation was closed.

Jesse Garon, an Elvis impersonator in Las Vegas, told a La Vegas newspaper that Bell had been filming an Elvis impersonator show.

Authorities said Bell's car was found in a parking structure at the Stratosphere, her keys were found at the front desk and she was videotaped buying a ticket to the observation deck late March 25.

The Stratosphere tower is more than 1,100 feet tall and resembles the Space Needle in Seattle. It is the tallest structure west of the Mississippi River.
