Caesars Palace has unleashed an upgraded mobile app for iPhone and Android that features a whole bunch of groovy new features. Let's take a looksi at the iPhone version...

The app features a streamlined navigation somewhat reminiscent of Apple's 'cover flow' but minus the shifting perspective of a flip book. When drilling down, the top level icons shrink to become a horizontal scrolling nav kinda like Instagram's filter flipper.

The gaming guide features rules/tutorials, tournaments, Total Rewards access and a list of "Five Lucky Locations" within Caesars Palace for you to visit when your mojo needs a power up. As expected, the Blackjack rules are totally wrong... the object of blackjack isn't to draw close to 21, it is to Beat the Dealer.

Speaking of statues, Caesars has put a guide to the statues located all over their property including photography and a little backgrounder on each. Layout fetishists will notice the missing typography declarations on these pages. Yeah, I'm a dorque.

Included in the app is a feed from the Trippies award winning Pulse of Vegas blog. Too bad the posts aren't updated in real time.

By far, the piece de resistance of this app is the interior map. The design and layout takes the Google Maps/Navteq map experience and moves it indoors. The map scales dynamically while retaining typographic integrity. Pop up links send you to the information pages for the specific attraction. Welcome to the next generation property map.

Detail pages contain information, telephone numbers and.... whammo... distance estimations culled from your GPS location. Wow.

That being said, I'm not a fan of the icon set they are employing. In such a small space, 2D, simple contrast icons are infinitely clearer for users of all skill levels.

The app also gives you the opportunity to send a "wish you were here" eCard to your buddies back home and include a photo taken from within the app in the inset. Funny... I don't remember giving Maxine my email address.

This is a great v 2.0 of the Caesars Palace app and a nice step forward for all Vegas hotel mobile applications. Kudos!

Comments & Discussion:

Interesting. I kind of like the statue map. The description of blackjack is used car sales at it's best.

Thanks for the Pulse of Vegas blog shout-out, and our app developer guys say the problem with the blog content not updating has been fixed. Thanks for catching that!
