Expedia Announces Top 10 Hotels Worldwide
Online travel reservation system Expedia released their annual list of top 10 hotels worldwide. Choices were made based on customer submitted ratings & reviews as well as selections by editors, project managers, database administrators and janitors.
The only hotel from Las Vegas to make the cut was:

NOBODY!
Yes, ladies and gentlemen... with all those Michelin/Forbes/AAA/Conde Nast/LEED/Trippies awards tucked under their armpits, not ONE single solitary Las Vegas hotel - Four Seasons, Mandarin Oriental, Wynn (Tower Suites), Bellagio, ARIA, Skylofts, Hotel32 or Hooters - made the cut of the top 10 hotels in the world.
But why? Could it be that these hotels we love and fetish over just don't stack up on the global stage? Or can we file this into the long unspoken fact that the travel industry doesn't really have any respect for Las Vegas even though it is the second most popular travel destination in the U.S.? Or is it the gorilla in the room... Obamacare gambling?
So, you tell me why no Vegas? And if you could pick ONE Las Vegas hotel to put in this list... which one would it be and why.

Vdara. None on the list has an architecturally-designed LEED-certified taint scalder like it does.
Las Vegas hotels are too big to provide the kind of service and intimate atmosphere Expedia's winners provide.
The Expedia customer: a whiny tightwad. The Expedia "editors": Expedia's marketing dept. trying to push business toward the company's highest earners. This collaboration is not a recipe for the Ritz Geneva to win a prize. Or any of Las Vegas's top properties. (Negotiated commissions for places like Encore, Mandarin O, and other top hotels are among Expedia's smallest, since those hotels least need Expedia's help.) Unlike Michelin and Forbes, there's no integrity here.
I just retutrned home from Wynn. It is still one of the best in the world, IMHO. Service was execptional, rooms were clean and awesome and it is a great place to stay and relax. Its exclusion must be because of that large noisy room that is right by the elevator (casino) or the constant thumping of music that can be heard ont he top floors at 3 am (xs).
How can any hotel be rated without a 24-hour hooker bar?
This list should not be taken as as serious evaluation of quality any more than a "Top 10" list hosted by Samantha Brown on Travel Channel would be.
There's no Vegas hotels on the list because Expedia is not pushing business in Vegas right now. They only publish the list to generate press for themselves, reward hotels that play ball, and to drive business to markets that they think have strong growth potential over the coming year.
It's telling that none of this year's top 10 were even on the list last year (http://www.gadling.com/2010/05/05/expedia-announces-2010-insiders-select-hotel-rankings/). I'd bet that none of this years "winners" will ever be heard from again either.
You know how serious this list is because they say the Sofitel is the best hotel in New York. I'll believe that when me shit turns purple and a leprachaun pops out!
Also, totally should be the SkyLofts, if there's better service in the world than that I'd love to see it.
If its any hotel to get on that list from Vegas, it should be the Bellagio. Just returned from a 3 night stay there and the experience was phenomenal not to mention the awesome service. Deserves the 5 mobile star award. Just a great hotel.
I don't think you can take these rankings too seriously. However, it would be hard to put a
3,000-room hotel up against some of the truly great resorts in the US. La Costa, Post Ranch Inn, The Breakers, or Montage would all beat any Las Vegas resort in almost every category.
[In my humble opinion]
