MGM Closes Part of Gold Strike Hotel
From the "We forgot MGM owned this property department" comes news that the Lion has closed one of the towers of the Gold Strike hotel, laying off 64 employees in process.
This makes perfect sense. Between the foolish closure of Nevada Landing, the opening of M and the successful attempts by the trio of Primm properties to market themselves as worthy destinations or at least a great place to stop, shop and take a leak, Gold Strike offers little more than a place to have conjugal visits with a prisoner on the lam from the nearby prison.
Our prediction is they sell this thing or close it outright within 2 years.... then Jean, NV heads back into the dust.

Comments & Discussion:
Isn't there only one tower anyway, not that it matters.
The same department (as Chuck called it, the "We forgot MGM owned this property department") also includes other Nevada casinos: Railroad Pass, Circus Circus Reno and a 50 percent stake in Reno's Silver Legacy. Plus the other Gold Strike in Tunica, Miss.
And, the Gold Strike in Tunica is currently closed (along with the other 8 Tunica casinos) due to the crazy flooding of the Mississippi River. Bad week for properties named "Gold Strike."
Gold Strike in Tunica is a class operation. Other than the current threat by the Might Miss, it has done well. Always busy. And will be again in a few weeks as they have held the river back.
Agreed. Love the live music at the VP bar there.
The Gold Strike Tunica staffer who maintains their Facebook account has posted some photos of the flooding:

Although the parking lot looks like a lake, Melody says that the interior of the casino and hotel is dry. Hope that's true!
