The great Nate Silver from the New York Times blog FiveThirtyEight, known for using statistical analysis to predict baseball and political outcomes, has turned his keen eye for everything onto a subject obviously near and dear to his heart - poker.

In his latest piece, After 'Black Friday,' American Poker Faces Cloudy Future, he discusses the lifecycle of the poker boom, from Moneymaker to Black Friday, and gives perhaps the most thorough explanation of the perilous state poker finds itself in, how it got there and what it can do to get out.

This is truly fabulous stuff... a MUST read for gamblers of any stripe or anyone interested in poker or the gambling biz, be it bricks or clicks.

If you read one piece of writing about poker this year, this should be it.
