Comments & Discussion:
After all these years since the Mirage opened, I still believe that if built at the right time, the original MGM Grand or the International could have been the casinos that revolutionized Las Vegas if the Mirage was never built.
Also speaking of Kirk, I was there when the original MGM Grand opened in '73 and I remember how massive and how detailed the inside of the hotel was. It was like Bellagio & Wynncore fancy in there and I remember just starring at the grand lobby and large chandeliers in awe. The shopping promenade on the second floor had designer shops and a movie theater where the sport book currently is and everything in that place was just pure luxury. It was a hotel of quality and quantity. Now as Ballys, the place isn't nearly as good as it use to be obviously from tacky renovations over the 90's but if you keep a close eye out, you can still see some Italian marble floors and fancy decor from the MGM days.
Actually when the Mirage opened, I couldn't decide which was a better, fancier place. Between the Mirage and the newly renamed Ballys.
Anyways, good job Mr.Kerkorian and I respect what you have done for gaming as well for the city of Las Vegas...
