Pimping Outlawed in Las Vegas

The Assembly Judiciary Committee voted unanimously Monday to make it easier for Nevada law enforcement to arrest and prosecute pimps.

AB470 removes a requirement that an act of prostitution or pimping be corroborated by a third party to prove guilt. If the bill passes, a pimp could be prosecuted based solely on the word of the prostitute.

"The only real testimony we have is these prostitutes," said Ben Graham of the Nevada District Attorney's Association. "Many of these are really victims, rather than criminals themselves. But the way the statute is structured ... they can't even testify."

Graham and members of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said the bill is particularly important in the effort to stop juvenile prostitution.
