The New Fontainebleau Rooms at The Plaza

Speaking of November 11th, that is the date that The Plaza will close its hotel while it refurbishes all of its rooms with fittings they bought at auction from Fontainebleau.

Plaza New Rooms

Thanks to a short slideshow posted on The Plaza's website (images of which we've poached above) I can guarantee you what is shown is almost exactly what the model hotel rooms in the Fontainebleau sales pavilion looked like right down the placement of the furniture. The one thing missing, of course, are the iMac computers.

Even without, the Plaza just jumped to second place behind the Golden Nug in my eyes. Can't wait to see these rooms in person.

Wow. Upgrade.

I hope they can pull it off. I'm looking forward to the VT report from the new Plazableau!

I have to say that once they reopen the hotel, I may have to look into staying there. I really dig that picture of the Union Plaza from the air that is hanging up in that room model.

When the Plaza "closes" is just the hotel closing? Or is the casino, restaurants and everything shutting up shop??

just the hotel. casino and "dining" will mostly be open.

It's pretty cheap to put together a picture. I hate to be the pessimist, but I will truly believe it when I see it.

I was there last night- the pizza place, cafe, buffet and gift shop are already cleared out. The 'Food Court' will consist of Subway and McDonalds. It will be interesting to see how much of the casino floor will get walled off today-

Regarding the pics, I'm surprised they used a room that shows you a view of the pool house and anyone wandering by will be able to look into your room.

That sink sure looks awkward. Looks like they literally set it in place over the existing sink. Probably glued it down with a little silicone caulk and called it done.

My main concern with the closures at the (Union) Plaza is how will it affect business at Firefly? I hope that it doesn't force them to close up shop (or severely cut their operating hours) at some point during the renovations. I know from my previous jaunts into the (Union) Plaza, the place was depressing to walk through. Imagine how much more it will be with so much of the place walled off and what's there is practically a bare bones operation. I'll check it out when I'm out there at the end of January.

What will happen if the Fontainebleau gets financing to resume construction? Will they have to change the rooms there (On the Strip), thus adding to the cost?

^^ Carl Icahn (owner of FB) has plenty of money to resume construction, it looks like he is either going to wreck it and sell it for scrap or sit on it and sell it to another sucker down the line at a profit. By that time the furnishings they sold would've been outdated and probably covered in filth. So the short answer is, yes, FB will need new rooms if someone decides to move forward finishing the project.

And if it would take a year to finish the 30 percent that was done, how much longer would it take to design new rooms, and how much more would it cost. And I'm curious about the ownership. Is Turnberry still involved, and will they be still involved when the property is completed? I am pretty confused.

Turnberry folks lost it in bankruptcy. Carl Icahn bought it for $150M + tax and tags in bankruptcy proceedings a coupla years ago... the first thing he did was liquidate the assets, i.e. furnishings, fittings and other crap.

What the frak will happen then? Will it still have the name? Will it still have the promised amenities when it opens? Can somebody please explain this jumbled picture and how it will get fixed?

Those are questions know one has any answers for. The truth is, no one knows what is going to happen - yet.

In that case, I guess I'll just use the secret.
