Southwest Deal : Free Night At Any MGM Resort Package

Southwest Airlines is back again, now with a package deal for any and all MGM Resorts International properties - MGM Grand, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, Luxor, NYNY, Monte Carlo, Vdara, Aria, Bellagio and their bastard child Circus Circus.

We've penciled out about a half dozen of these in the past, and they always come up aces as long as you do teeny weeny bit of math for your particular times and dates of travel. First, gather up your dates and check Kayak.com for the best rates at given properties for your stay THEN compare other airline carriers to Southwest for your travel dates. Compare with this Southwest package and pick the winner!

Here's the deal as posted by Southwest:

Book a package to Las Vegas and save up to $200, plus receive a FREE night at MGM Resorts. Use promo code: 25PERNT. Book 7/30 - 8/16.

We booked a theoretical trip for two from Chicago Midway to Las Vegas, from 10/28 - 11/2 (five nights) staying at ARIA. The price quoted is $1,163.09, or $581.55 per person, or $150 each for airfare and a hotel room for about $150 / night. Also Southwest charges no baggage fees so you save about $100 bucks there too.

Again, this pencils out as a pretty good deal if you are lucky enough to have Southwest service at your local airport.

Anyone ever done it on an airplane?

I've done it multiple times on an airplane if by "done it" you mean watch porn without a screen filter.

These kind of deals are obviously great for the consumer who really doesn't care how they get to Vegas. Southwest by far has the worst long haul experience of any carrier. Taking Southwest from East to West is worse than the dentist. But congrats on everyone who can do this on a short haul...PHX-LAS would be a great weekend with a free night included

^ Serious? Southwest has one of the most GENEROUS seat pitches out of ALL US airlines. Only Continental offers a more relaxed seat pitch. Southwest is also one of the only airlines to serve free food still, offering peanuts and snack packs on longer flights. Again, the only airline who really has them beat in that category is continental. They also are the ONLY airline around giving each passenger two free checked bags. I think people just like to badmouth them because they are cheaper. On a huge aviation forum i'm on, people who knock southwest are known as pompous, because the only real reason they have for doing so is the cheap price. Southwest is one of the best ways to get to Vegas for domestic US flights. Continental is great too. But if you are simply too good and care so greatly about how you get to Vegas, take continental. Feel free to dump the 300 or so dollars you spend extra in a worthwhile charity.

(This coming from someone who is 6'3 and takes Southwest trans-con flights on a monthly basis. Get over it.)

Maybe I am spoiled because I live about 70 miles from both Tampa and Orlando International Airports but Southwest has non-stop flights to and from Vegas and I have never had a problem of any kind. Even the one time I had a flight on the way out that stopped in Denver, it was awesome. This is just luck of the draw but I ended up sitting in a front row seat and having some drinks with some fellow 20-somethings. We were having so much fun, one of the flight attendants actually bought us a drink. Anyhow, that was a best-case scenario. The only thing that drives me less than crazy about Southwest is the open boarding. If I don't check in like exactly 24 hours before the flight, I always end up with a B or C boarding group and in a middle seat.

Yeah JM, I guess we're both spoiled. Oh well, I'll be more than happy just to take the cheap deals from Southwest and let stuck up people fly elsewhere :)

Yeah, but honestly I love that method because if you DO snag an A pass which I always have in my top priorities, you just get to relax. Plus, with the new numbering system they put into the passes (IE A 13, A 14, A 15 etc.), there is a bonified order of how to board the plane. No more chaos either.
