Exclusive: Wynn iPhone App Released!

Wynn iPhone App

The fine folks at Wynncore gave us an early taste of their new app for iPhone and Android, which is (was) planned for release later this week (but is now available in the iTunes app store.) This makes two gigantic web-related leaps for these guys in the last month. Hot off the heels of Aria's latest addition to the app market and fresh after Wynn surprised us all with online access to your Red Card account, this can only mean one thing: Wynn's marketing team is finally taking the internets very, *very* seriously.

The homepage is clean, simple, and straightforward with icons below for amenities and a search tool on the upper right. There's even a ticker on the very bottom connected to their Facebook and Twitter updates. Way cool.

You can browse through photos of the rooms and get more detailed specs on whichever one you choose. Extra points for the ability to comment on them and add them to a favorites list.

Other icons function much the same way with the ability to scroll through their offerings, post comments on them, and even "like" them.

The ability to search through restaurants quickly is done exceptionally well. We're also pleased to see menus, hours, and dress code information - very helpful, especially when you're at Mandalay Bay and debating on Okada for the evening.

The addition of a "Gallery" section allows you to browse through glamour shots of Wynncore while lying in bed anxiously awaiting your next trip. (Not that I've been doing that each and every night since Iíve had this app). The "Videos" section is connected directly to their YouTube profile.

The app also features general resort information, links to their monthly newsletter (love the mosaic butterflies they use in that background), the ability to sign on to their mailing list, and even allows you to connect with Twitter and Facebook to share parts of the app that you've liked.

We're especially fond of the favorites list. Making a general itinerary of things to do? Add them to your favorites to have immediate access while you're at the resort. Here's the potential line-up of some of the dining I might be doing during Podcast-a-Palooza.

For all its awesomeness though, we've got a few criticisms. Notice anything peculiar? There's something missing. You know, that thing that occupies nearly 200,000 square feet of space between both properties? Yes, that's right - there's absolutely nothing about the casino in here. We're told that's in the pipeline along with future mobile Red Card account access. Spa and golf information is also absent, though we're certain that's in the works as well.

Of course, the inevitable iTunes review is sure to complain about the fact that you can't book a room directly via the app. Consider this a preemptive strike against those so socially awkward that they can't call the reservations number highlighted right there in front of their face on the PHONE they're already using. It can't get any easier.

Overall, the app is excellent. Perhaps it's not as thorough as Aria's foray into mobile information, but it's far cleaner and easier to navigate - something much-appreciated while starving and looking for a restaurant to your liking in the resort. Add Red Card access and spa treatment menus and the app will be complete. Add a table games finder and it just might receive this coveted position in my dock.

I'm stuck on the waiting to load screen...

Are there pictures of the deuce in the pool?

Well, 50% of the iOS market is the iPod touch which can't make calls (some would say the same about the iPhone - har har har) so in-app reservations is actually a feature that I'm sure a lot of users would really appreciate.

It's about time Wynn started to take the "series of tubes" seriously. The app looks great! Maybe, just maybe, there will be a website redesign sometime soon.

@RateVegas, I agree 100%. I hope they add this feature soon.

The first thing every casino app should include is a map of the property.

Hunter, while I no doubt can't argue with your expertise, I think making a room reservation directly via an app is more of a "cool" feature than a useful one. Honestly, the potential of spending hundreds and possibly thousands and planning an entire vacation using an app isn't a notion I'm yet comfortable with. Additionally, I'd imagine the share of the iOS market for Touch users will only diminish as iPhone improves.
