TropWatch: Garden Rooms Unavailable After August 1

Yesterday, I was scouting about for room rates for an upcoming trip to Vegas. Curious to check out the changes to the Tropicana, I went a'hunting there first. What I found was that the Garden Rooms - the low lying vintage hotel that surrounds the pool - were going for the astronomical sum of $129/weekend night! Yowza. The froshly redesigned Paradise tower rooms were going for $149/night! Double Yowza! I did a cursory check of Hotels.com (via the search box on VT's homepage) and saw that they were offering the same rooms for $90/night... a bit more realistic, but still a smidge overpriced in my book. I made a quick note to myself that I needed to investigate this a little further for a future post and went to bed.

Trop Garden Rooms

Today, the future post has arrived to find that the Garden Rooms have been removed from the reservation system's room descriptions and are now marked as SOLD OUT for the remainder of 2010.

We've heard numerous rumors that the Garden Room buildings were going to be razed to make way for future Tropicana growth, but the Trop website dispels those rumors by branding them now as "Havana Garden Rooms" which will be "arriving spring/summer 2010" OR "debuting Fall 2010" depending on which page you look at. We'll take the latter.

The Garden Rooms are one of the last standing structures from the Vegas motor hotel era, it is incredibly exciting to see that they will not only be preserved, but get a complete makeover to match the rest of the hotel.

Comments & Discussion:

Hmmm I was looking for a hotel to stay at in November and the rooms at the Trop were very attractive. If they are done with the rehab by November the Trop may win my vote and money.

I thought the Trop was saying that it was only some of the garden rooms that would be razed. I guess we'll wait and see.
