Hotel Packages: Something Truly Unique, Different, and Better?

"There's no mystery as to what people want. The whole idea, though, is to serve it up to you in a way that's unique and different and better than what you've ever had before."

These are Steve Wynn's own words as you load up information on the packages they're offering on Wynn Las Vegas's website. The problem is, rooms coupled with show tickets or a dinner into one lump sum of a price isn't really that unique, or different, or better aside from possibly saving you a couple bucks.

With all-encompassing travel searches like Kayak and ease of access to a network of travelers eager to share their experiences, the consumer of today is the savviest ever. A simple package combining spa credit with your room? Not gonna do. You have to give something that nobody else offers or otherwise can't be attainable - something truly unique, different, and better.

Wynn's done that a few times, most famously with their now abandoned Jetsetter package. It essentially took you from Orange County or Burbank airport's runway to McCarran's without the drudgery of terminals or security - way cooler than a room with dinner thrown in. Hell, a couple years ago, there was even a package where you could book Steve's very own Boeing Business Jet, bunk as his neighbor (pre-Elaine split) in one of the hardcore villas, and drive off in a Ferrari Fiorano that otherwise had a six-month waiting list. Not exactly for everybody, but again, something different.

We're happy to report that, while I'd never consider it due to my slight claustrophobia, fear of dark water, and sensitivity to pressure, Wynn is now providing a Diver's Dream package. It includes the typical two night accommodations at either Wynn or Encore along with VIP seating at Le Reve, but they're also throwing in a backstage tour of the show, SCUBA lessons, and a chance to be part of Le Reve as a diver.

Now THAT'S way cool.

Go ahead and get the pencil out. Jot down the math. Yes, it's extremely overpriced, but that's not what this is about. Here's a package that's truly unique, different, and one of the better offerings in town. Let's hope we see more. A "DRIVER's Dream" package? Not too hard with a Ferrari dealership on site. Or something with a behind-the-scenes tour of the Wynn mountain?

Pretty much all the megaresorts have the capability of making the packaged vacation relevant again - of making something unique, different, and better. People will pay a premium for creativity.
