Palms Launches New Website
Sometime in the last month or so, The Palms has launched a brand new website, chock full of flashy insanity.

The logo also appears to have been changed every so slightly as well. The fronds have been cleaned up and de-peacocked. Nice. Damn, I missed Dom Irrera last weekend!

For all its bells and whistles, navigating around the website can be a little tricky though. Lots of scrolly, window popping gizmos and doodads, many of which don't follow basic usability rules and others which prompt you to click but then don't even work. Clicking buttons that look like they work, that don't work make me angry and want to go stay at the Hard Rock.

Despite the groovy style and high-res depth of the photos, it is in the details of the navigation and usability where this site begins to fail. All this excess navigation turns makes the user experience horizontal, instead of vertical. Horizontal navigation is great if you're a newspaper where there is no end point other than having the visitor read as much content as possible, but when the point of your website is to send someone to a shopping cart where the will purchase something - i.e. book a room - having too many options defeats the purpose.
In my book the "Book This Room" button should be the biggest thing on the page.

It also didn't take more than five clicks to find the 404 error page.
Good effort for sure, but certainly needs some editing.

Comments & Discussion:
There is no excuse for not debugging it before switching over. They have been working on it for the last couple weeks and I've noticed some bugs have since been fixed while others they are not even aware of.
The "capacity 100" is misleading as all hell. I worked there for 4 years, and while the Palms tried their damndest to get 100 people in that room, it just doesn't fly. Max cap 50 for a party which doesn't result in a subway effect.
