Wynn Resort Fee : The New Fine Print

As they promised the Wynn Las Vegas technocrats have re-arranged their reservation system to properly accommodate their newly implemented resort fee.

Previously, the additional fee was hidden in a terms and conditions link that nobody ever reads.

Now, it is listed front and center... sorta.

Wynn Las Vegas

It is obvious by how the designers have skirted the issue of itemizing all of the room rates, taxes and fees that the Wynn folks know inherently that the inclusion of a resort fee is just plain wrong.

Dr. Dave Schwartz has been cheerleading the idea of giving guests the ability to select tiered amenity upgrade packages and bypassing the whole resort fee concept altogether. 'Platinum' : spa service, internet, gym, preferred access +$100 / day on down to a 'Bronze' package that would feature what they are offering as part of the resort fee. This would not be a required purchase, but an elective upgrade. We're confident that a large percentage of people would gladly pay for packaged upgrades to make up for and even surpass those who don't. Plus you get the added bonus of not making your boutique luxury resort look like a sleazy five and dime you to death operation.

Comments & Discussion:

If theyre able to get people to pony up and book a room for $1500+ for three nights when other hotels cant even fill rooms at around $80 a night, they should be happy with that...... Trying to pry another $20 a night is just plain petty and greedy.

I think the way this was done was an insult to the brand and Dr. Schwartz' tiered approach would be perfect.
That said I think the "greedy" comment misses the point. Goods and services are priced at what the market will bear. Don't like it? Then Wynn will suffer the consequences if enough people reject his idea of revenue enhancement.

Wynn is already too pricey IMHO. I'd rather stay at Venetian/Palazzo or any MGM Property (cept Circus Circus) then stay at the overpriced Wynn. Add to that a new resort fee and no thanks. Atleast Mandalay Bay gives you a free drink with their resort fee.
